Another concept shot of the Giraffe from the Short Film "Nightfall" I'm serving as Art Director for.    It is currently being developed as a CG film and this is how I envision the final product to look.

Art Look of Boneo and Ghouliet

"Boneo and Ghoulet"
A Short Film by Courtney Morlock

These are the images that I feel best represent the feel for the film.  The blending between the two worlds, and how the characters are adapted into the story.

I took inspiration from many sources, and a few sources that wouldn't seem to go together.  For the background and environment I was mostly inspired by "Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends" and "101 Dalmatians".

For the character designs I wanted to try something different then my usual style, I took inspirations from the Japanese series "Panty and Stocking".  The shows bold colors and simplistic style intrigued me for this story.

Boneo and Ghouliet Concept 03

This was the concept piece for the front of the Capulet Cemetery, in which Ghouliet and the other "Capulet" Characters reside.  All the grave stones are marked with other tragic Shakespearian characters.

Here is a still from the production.  I've been working on this project for a while now and I am happy to see it start to come together.   Pictured we have our Boneo and Ghouliet on their first encounter.

Boneo and Ghouliet Concept 02

This is the concept for the Montague Morgue.  A colorful yet abstract building in which our "Boneo" resides.  It is across the street from the Capulet Cemetery.   I went through many color concepts to see which one fit the best into the film.  Though the red hue was my favorite visually, I want to play up the two 'sides' of our love story, so in the end I stuck with the blue hue to parallel "Ghouliet's" reddish color scheme.

Though the story is morbid in the fact that all of the characters are dead, it's actually a love story that ends happily due to that.  The colors and design reflect that aspect of story telling.

Boneo and Ghouliet Concept

"Boneo and Ghouliet"
A short by Courtney Morlock

I'm currently in the process of developing a short film called "Boneo and Ghouliet".  The premise can be easily assumed, but the story is a parody of Romeo and Juliet told as if the characters were all ghosts.

This is the main character of Ghouliet at the beginning of the film.
